A green message means Salt Mail has checked that a verified person stands behind the membership, that the contact meets your assurance requirements, and that the sender has funds to send.

You get that assurance without seeing their identity documents or learning their private identity. Verification asks more of someone than opening another disposable email account. It creates accountability while protecting personal information.

### You decide what it takes to reach you.

The sender does not get to decide how much assurance you should accept. You decide.

We are building finer controls with a simple aim: make abuse less worthwhile without making ordinary conversation harder.

### A small cost. A better exchange.

Think of the sending charge as a tiny network fee, similar in purpose to a blockchain gas fee. Our early observations among members suggest that even a small cost encourages more considered exchanges. The goal is to sustain that quality as the network grows.

### And it doesn’t stop at sign-up.

Identity and payment are only part of the picture. Reputation controls also examine member activity across the network: sending patterns, changes in behavior, recipient responses, blocks and abuse reports, and attempts to work around restrictions.

Membership comes with continuing responsibilities. How someone behaves after joining matters.

### More than a pinky swear.

A hyperprotected vault helps safeguard sensitive verification work. Cryptographic attestation allows an independent verifier to check the protected software environment, rather than relying on our word alone.

We put evidence behind our claims and share the methods, findings, and limits so you can examine them.

### Welcome the conversation. Keep your judgment.

Green gives you a stronger starting point. It does not approve every request that follows. Don’t forget what your mama taught you: an unexpected request to wire money still deserves a question.

You should be able to welcome a worthwhile introduction without becoming an investigator. The person making it has responsibilities too.
